FC Liverpool have once again suffered a blow in the Premier League. After four straight wins, the Reds lost 3-1 at FC Brentford last week and LFC only drew 2-2 against Wolverhampton Wanderes in the FA Cup recently. By signing PSV star Cody Gakpo, Jürgen Klopp has sent yet another wake-up call to the competition and the message that Liverpool have not given up yet this season.

The latest loss widened the gap to the Champions League places. Manchester United, who sit fourth in the standings, are now seven points clear of Liverpool. Jürgen Klopp’s side are therefore all the more keen to win the next away game at Brighton & Hove Albion. Indeed, the Seagulls are just one point behind the Reds in the standings and recently secured a 4-1 win over Everton.

Brighton: news and form

Brighton & Hove Albion have weathered the loss of head coach Graham Potter to Chelsea better than expected. Indeed, the Seagulls enjoyed no less success under Roberto De Zerbi and were able to rekindle their excellent start to the season with the Italian. Brighton have won four of their last six Premier League games and are now just one point behind Liverpool. After the 2-4 home defeat against leaders Arsenal, the southern Englishmen managed to send an appropriate response at Everton. Brighton led 4-0 at Everton, before the Toffees scored the winner.

The three defeats in 13 Premier League appearances show how well Brighton have performed so far under De Zerbi’s management. The Italian also made his debut against FC Liverpool, which ended in a 3-3 draw. However, the Seagulls haven’t won a single one of the first five matches under De Zerbi. But since then everything has been fine. Brighton took twelve points from the last 18 possible. In addition, the goal difference is positive (21:20). The 4-1 home win over Chelsea on Matchday 14, however, is the only success at the home stadium under De Zerbi.

Liverpool: news and form

Liverpool won their last home game against Leicester City 2-1, but only because centre-back Wout Faes provided the Reds with two fabulous own goals. You could already see that LFC’s recent winning streak was fragile. This was confirmed in West London at the Bees. Brentford were leading 2-0 at the break and Liverpool were lucky VAR disallowed the third goal. In the end, Klopp’s team lost 3-1, for the fifth time this season. But you also have to see the positive in the negative. The performance of Darwin Núñez, who was the decisive factor in attack in the 2-2 cup draw with Wolverhampton, was particularly positive.

Liverpool have certainly won twelve out of fifteen points in the last five matches, but have never kept a clean sheet. The Reds’ last clean sheet dates back to October 19, when they won 1-0 at home to West Ham. With 22 goals conceded, Liverpool are the second team to have conceded the most goals among the top six teams in the standings. Only Tottenham have already conceded more goals. Never before, under Jürgen Klopp, LFC had conceded 22 goals after 17 matches. On average, 1.2 balls per game land in the club’s cage.

It’s not only the last encounter, which ended in a 3-3 draw, that makes us think both teams will score on Saturday, but also the last results of both teams. In the two teams’ respective seven games, Liverpool and Brighton did not achieve a clean sheet.
